Hagåtña, Guam – October 31, 2023 - Calvo Fisher & Jacob announced today that Kathy Fisher will be entering a new relationship with the firm at the end of the month and that the firm will change its name to Calvo Jacob & Pangelinan effective November 1, 2023.
“Kathy has played a key role in the establishment and growth of the firm’s cross-border litigation practice, including the development of a talented team of litigators in Guam and California,” said Michael Pangelinan, partner of Calvo Fisher & Jacob. “She has helped put us in a strong position to continue to build our litigation practice in California, Guam and across the Pacific region. We are pleased that she has agreed to continue to help with the transition and also wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
“At this stage in my career, I decided it was time to stay closer to home and family,” said Fisher. “I am so proud of all we have accomplished at the firm over the past 20 years especially of the big case litigation practice in California, the Western Pacific and Asia. I am confident that Rodney Jacob will lead and build on that practice. With a new generation of lawyers coming up through the ranks, I am happy to stay and help with the transition and am confident about the firm’s continued success in Guam and California and the Asia Pacific region.”
“Kathy has made an amazing contribution to the firm and our clients over the years. We will miss her frequent presence on Guam and Micronesia but we are grateful for her willingness to help with the transition and she will always be part of our family,” said founding partner Eduardo Calvo. “At the same time Rodney Jacob and I are very pleased to have the opportunity to add Mike Pangelinan’s name to the firm’s letterhead given the depth of his practice, his prominence in the Guam legal community, and the trust being placed on him by our clients.”
“It’s an exciting time at the firm,” said Pangelinan, who joined the firm as an associate in 1997 and became a partner in 2003. “Over the last year, we’ve completed a number of major transactions and also obtained great results for our clients on the litigation front. I’m looking forward to building on this momentum as we move forward.”
Pangelinan’s practice focuses on commercial transactional work on behalf of hotels, media companies, retailers, wholesalers and service industry clients in Guam and Saipan. In addition to representing clients in corporate mergers and acquisitions, he also handles their labor and employment law matters and all aspects of their transactional needs. He was Chairman of the Guam Bar Association (GBA) Ethics Committee from 2007 to 2009 and GBA Vice-President from 2010 to 2017. He is a Guam Public Utilities Commissioner. He is also a member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of Legislative Affairs of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Guam Chapter.
