The COVID-19 pandemic is already having a serious impact on us all – both at home and in the workplace – and will affect every sector of the Guam economy. Calvo Fisher & Jacob has created a Coronavirus Task Force and is closely monitoring the global threat of COVID-19 in order to provide up-to-date practical information to individuals and businesses about the wide range of legal and other issues arising from the pandemic.
The firm has created a special website available to the public focusing on the business and legal impacts of the pandemic. We will be providing regular updates as the situation changes and our federal and territorial governments respond to the threat posed by the virus.
“We’re all in this together and we want to do our part to help get us all through this unprecedented difficult time,” said Michael Pangelinan, Managing Partner of Calvo Fisher & Jacob. “The website is a resource for anyone on Guam seeking information to help them deal with the impact of the pandemic on their job or business.” Pangelinan went on to say, “There is a lot of information out there and we hope our website will help people receive and understand information that’s most useful to them."
“We’re paying especially close attention to how the people and businesses of Guam can benefit from the relief legislation coming out of Washington,” added Pangelinan. One of this week’s updates from the CFJ Task Force examines the Guam Department of Labor’s effort to obtain COVID-19 related unemployment benefits for Guam workers. The Task Force reported last week that Guam has been added to the list of states and territories in which small business owners are eligible to apply for low-interest federal disaster loans to cover substantial economic injury as a result of COVID-19.
“The website is strictly informational and does not offer legal advice,” concluded Pangelinan. “As always, you should contact your lawyer about any legal issues or questions you may have. But our hope is to bring together important, relevant and timely information of benefit to the Guam community in these extraordinary and uncertain times.”
